3 big reasons people love McDonald

McDonald’s is the most successful and widespread fast-food chain in the entire world. The McDonalds brand is recognizable everywhere and has remained a prominent presence in pop culture since its inception.

However, McDonald’s has been one of the chief scapegoats people point their finger at when talking about the problem of obesity in countries like the United States. Many people look at McDonald’s because it has produced fast food and marketed it for children for decades, but this reasoning discounts the role of personal responsibility as well.

Regardless, people continue to love McDonald’s for a variety of reasons.

The food

Of course, McDonald’s is beloved for its iconic food. In many ways, it is the quintessential fast-food establishment with burgers, fries, milkshakes and chicken nuggets. McDonald’s has its own signature foods that you can’t get anywhere else, with unique sauces like Big Mac sauce that people come back for time and time again.

The happy meals

McDonald’s is popular with parents because of the happy meal – the signature kids offering that famously comes with a toy. It’s almost like an instant cure for unhappy kids, providing them with a quick, tasty meal and a brief distraction in the form of a cheaply produced toy.

The nostalgia and pop culture significance

McDonald’s is one of those pop culture icons that appears in many classic films and is something that many people grew up with. The ‘idea’ of McDonald’s in people’s minds is almost more appealing than the experience itself, and people will always have fond memories associated with their times in the McDonald’s playground as a child or going to get McDonald’s on a cold winter’s day as a hot meal.

As you can see, it’s not hard to understand why so many people love McDonald’s no matter what.

How Jamie Oliver became a household name

Jamie Oliver is one of the best-known celebrity chefs of the last generation and got his start at the age of 24 in 1999 with a debut on the show The Naked Chef. The show was popular, especially with the tough demographic of young men, because of Jamie’s relaxed style and avoiding the ‘boring bits of cooking like chopping herbs and measuring precise amounts.

The show ran for there seasons and had three Christmas special episodes. The show was filmed for the first 2 seasons in Jamie’s own home. In the show, he would often have the theme of the episode be around cooking for different occasions such as a birthday or for kids when babysitting. In season 3 Jamie tended to travel around a lot more, and he eventually launched a cookbook from the show’s success that became a bestseller very quickly.

Jamie then moved to a different network and started a series called Jamie’s Kitchen. This series followed his experience opening his own restaurant, and he was recognized by Tony Blair, the Prime Minister of the UK at the time.

Since this initial success, Jamie Oliver has gone on to become one of the most famous chefs in the world. He has released over 26 cookbooks, and you can find them in every corner of the globe. Many of Jamie’s cookbooks focus on simplifying home cooking for people who may have otherwise found it too difficult to attempt.

In this way, Jamie Oliver appeals to people who want cooking to be simple and straightforward. Many men have cited Jamie Oliver as the reason they found cooking more appealing as something they want to get good at. Jamie has also become the face of the Woolworths brand in Australia and opened many restaurants around the world.

Iron Chef was a truly iconic cooking show

The original Japanese Iron Chef cooking show was both highly entertaining and massively influential on the cooking show genre. The show was simple in concept, but that simplicity made it so malleable and allowed for a long-running series that entertained many and is cited as an inspiration for many of today’s top chefs.

How did it work?

Iron Chef was a competitive cooking show where a challenger chef would challenge one of the Iron Chefs who were residents of the show. The Iron Chefs were considered the best in their respective cuisine, with the main Iron Chefs being French, Japanese’s, and Chinese. There was an Italian Iron Chef who was rarely engaged.

Most of the challengers originated from Asia and the show was dubbed into English from its original Japanese. The episodes focused on a style of cuisine and 1 key surprise ingredient that the challenger and the Iron Chef would need to create a menu around on the spot.

The contestants would then have an hour to prepare and cook the menu they come up with. While completing the menu was essential to winning, they also needed to impress the tasting judges by doing something unique with the key ingredient. In this sense, the show was focused around innovating in cooking on the spot with limited time.

It was considered a great honour for any challenger to face an Iron Chef, whether they won or lost. The show was always very respectful and never had any of the on-screen outbursts typical of other reality shows, especially competitive ones.

Why it’s iconic

Iron Chef is an iconic TV show because it was one of the first shows to make a spectacle out of cooking. It made the career of professional chef exciting and was entertaining for millions.

The real history of Colonel Sanders

Colonel Sanders is popularly known as the mascot and founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken (now known mainly as KFC). Before KFC became internationally famous, it was started by Harland Sanders who used to run serve up simple dished at a gas station by the roadside.

Despite dying in 1980, Sanders and his likeness are world-famous for the connection to the KFC brand. Sanders originally created his recipe for fried chicken in the mid-1930s where his famous “11 herbs and spices” originated.

Sanders actually got into a shootout with a business rival early in his career, and the charges were dropped against him since he did not fire the first shot. Sanders was actually in the military and lied about his age to serve in Cuba in 1906, and was made an honorary colonel by the Governor of Kentucky Ruby Lafoon in 1935. Sanders embraced his honorary colonel title and discovered it was an effective marketing tactic to make him stand out from the competition.

Sanders had a very diversified job history before his fried chicken became world-famous. He had worked as a farmhand, and also worked in law and delivering babies as well. A brawl in the courtroom with a client ended his legal career, but he also operated a steamboat for some time.

Contrary to popular belief, the first official KFC franchise started in Utah and not Kentucky. Back then, KFC looked like a very unique regional menu in a place like Utah.

Sanders famously sued KFC after he sold the company because they wanted to block him starting his own chain after criticizing a drop in quality. They settled out of court on the condition that Sanders could give a cooking lesson to KFC executives.

That’s just some of the real history of Colonel Sanders.
